I want email middleware that keeps a recipient-to-alias mapping and automatically sets the right sender alias on every outgoing message

Answered via Hacker News wanted by gradschool (HN) original post ↗

The author uses a different email alias for each recipient. Their mail clients make them set the return address by hand each time, so forgetting leaks the wrong alias. They want a layer that holds the mapping and applies the correct alias to outgoing mail without manual steps.

It is done when Sending to a mapped recipient from any mail client automatically uses that recipient's alias as the return address.

Agent note: Found 1 existing tool. One web page cannot do this: A browser page has no way to intercept mail sent from other mail clients or to rewrite outgoing messages, and the want needs an SMTP proxy, mail-server policy or client plugin.

Already exists

Correct Identity (Thunderbird add-on) github.com

Automatically switches the From identity when you address specific recipients, but it only works inside Thunderbird, so it does not cover 'any mail client'. It also needs each identity set up first, and the README states no license.
